Rollins has once again been named one of the nation’s best colleges to work for, according to a recent survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. This is the 15th year in a row that the College has received the honor.

“This recognition is gratifying and affirming of our aspiration to be an inclusive community where all share a common sense of purpose and where all feel valued for their contributions to that purpose,” says President Grant Cornwell. “Everyone at Rollins is committed to caring for our students and ensuring their success, and the diversity and expertise of our faculty and staff empowers our graduates to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers as global citizens and responsible leaders.”

The results, released in The Chronicle’s 15th annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of 194 colleges and universities across the nation. In all, only 72 of the institutions were recognized as a Great College to Work For, and Rollins was honored among medium-size universities with 3,000 to 9,999 students.

“We are humbled to have been recognized as a Great College to Work For over the past 15 consecutive years based on the positive workplace experiences and sentiments of our faculty and staff,” says Matt Hawks, Rollins’ associate vice president of human resources and risk management. “The Rollins workforce is a very special, caring community that is committed to our mission and to delivering responsive, respectful, collaborative, competent, and inclusive service to our students and stakeholders.”

Rollins has also earned special status as a 2023 Honor Roll institution, among only 42 colleges recognized across multiple categories. Only 42 other colleges received recognition across nine or more categories, and for the second time, the College was recognized in all 10 categories:

• Confidence in senior leadership
• Diversity, inclusion, and belonging
• Faculty and staff well-being
• Faculty experience
• Job satisfaction and support
• Mission and pride
• Professional development
• Shared governance
• Supervisor and department chair effectiveness

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captures demographics and workplace policies, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. Employee feedback was the primary factor in deciding whether an institution was recognized.

“Once again, leaders at the institutions recognized in this year’s Great Colleges to Work For program have demonstrated their collective commitment to the stewardship of their institutions’ cultures,” says Richard Boyer, principal and managing partner at ModernThink, the consulting firm that carried out the survey with The Chronicle of Higher Education. “This year’s Great Colleges to Work For honorees have found ways to manage change better than most. Their commitment to the well-being of their faculty and staff is second to none.”
