The Rollins Museum of Art (RMA) is pleased to announce its fall 2026 Visions of the City exhibition. Drawn entirely from the museum’s world-class collection of contemporary and historic art, this exhibition explores representations of urban life across time, place, and medium. Through painting, photographs, prints, and video art, artists explore how social, cultural, and political forces shape the environments we inhabit, often filtered through the lens of personal experience.

Featuring scenes from the United States and around the globe, Visions of the City highlights visual markers of urban transformation, including skyscrapers, bridges, bustling streets, and expanding infrastructure. Together, these works document and interrogate the promises and consequences of progress, technological innovation, and growth, revealing the city as both a physical landscape and a reflection of human aspirations. Spanning the 19th through 21st centuries, the exhibition brings together collection highlights and recent acquisitions to offer fresh perspectives on the urban experience.

“With Visions of the City, we are presenting treasured highlights of the RMA’s collection alongside recent acquisitions,” says Leslie Anderson, RMA’s executive director. “Together, these works explore how people live, move, and interact with one another while celebrating the role of the urban landscape in shaping our shared human experience. The exhibition exemplifies RMA’s commitment to developing original, scholarly exhibitions that illuminate new ideas through our collection of nearly 6,000 objects, inviting visitors to encounter both familiar and newly acquired works in fresh and unexpected ways.”

Earlier this summer, RMA welcomed La Vaughn Belle’s outdoor installation, The House That Freedoms Built, on campus. An accompanying exhibition, To Imagine a Home, is on display through January 3, 2027.

This exhibition features a selection of works from the museum’s collection—including two new acquisitions by Belle, as well as works by Allen Fireall, Pepón Osorio, Emilio Sánchez, Yinka Shonibare, and Becky Suss—that explore the many, often complex ways we connect with the spaces we inhabit.

Together, these works examine the physical, metaphorical, and imagined aspects of the concept of home. Each piece offers a unique perspective, encouraging reflection on how lived spaces hold memories while also offering opportunities to reinterpret them.
