The Rollins College Debate Team returned from the 2026 Florida Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Tournament in Tallahassee with major competitive successes and two state championships.
The state tournament took place February 2026 and brought together more than 100 competitors from 13 colleges and universities across Florida for a full weekend of debate and individual speaking events. The team competed across multiple formats and divisions against a deep field that included both experienced varsity programs and strong novice competitors from institutions across the state.
In individual debate competition, Aidan Frazier ’26 delivered an exceptional performance throughout the tournament. After four preliminary rounds, Frazier stood undefeated and advanced to elimination rounds as the top seed. He then continued his winning streak through quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, finishing with a perfect 7–0 record and earning the Florida state debate championship. This result marks a major competitive achievement for both Frazier and the Rollins program.
The team also secured a state title in National Parliamentary Debate. Jade Monroe ’28 and Ella Afrifa ’29 advanced through preliminary rounds and elimination debates to win the Novice State Championship. Their only losses came against varsity teams from the University of Florida and Florida State University, underscoring the strength of their performance against more experienced competition.
Ella Hutsell ’29 and Amelia King ’29 each also finished with 2–2 records after competing against both novice and varsity debaters. Hutsell was one of the highest-scoring competitors on the team overall, with judges praising her listening skills, logical, and critical thinking. Judges also commended King’s speaking skills and strategic instincts.
Overall, the Rollins team’s results at the state tournament have qualified Rollins to compete at upcoming national tournaments, where they will face top collegiate programs from across the country in their inaugural year as a competitive forensics team.
